Devotion: Day 2
Day 2: From Gossip to Grace
Reading: Numbers 12:1-16
Devotional: Miriam and Aaron's story serves as a sobering warning about the danger of talking about people rather than to them. Their criticism of Moses seemed justified in their minds—they had legitimate concerns. Yet God heard their private conversation and called it what it was: rebellion. Notice that God didn't just correct their words; He addressed their hearts. Gossip separates friends, destroys trust, and invites divine discipline. But there's a redemptive alternative: talking about people in ways that honor them. Pray for others by name. Celebrate their victories. Speak words that stir them toward love and good works. When you're tempted to criticize, pause and ask: "Would I say this if they were standing here? Would I say this if Jesus were standing here?" Transform your people-talk from poison to praise.
Reflection Question: Who have I talked about recently that I should be praying for instead?
