Day 3: The Cross Speaks to Every Kind of Wound

Reading: Isaiah 53:4-6; 1 Peter 2:24

Devotional: The cross addresses two realities that every human being carries: suffering and sin. Isaiah makes no separation between them. He speaks of griefs and sorrows alongside transgressions and iniquities. Jesus bore both. This means the cross is not only a message for the guilty who need forgiveness, though it is certainly that. It is also a word of hope for the grieving who need healing. The woman who has done nothing wrong but buried her husband and the man who has wounded his family through dishonesty can both look to the same Savior. He meets each person in truth and offers grace sufficient for that truth.

Reflection: Which of these two needs, healing from suffering or forgiveness for sin, feels most pressing to you today? Bring that specific need to the cross.

Practical Application: Write down one burden related to suffering and one related to personal failure. Pray over both, surrendering each to Christ, and remind yourself that the cross was sufficient for both.
