Day 2: Jesus, The Man who knew Sorrow

Reading: Isaiah 53:3-6

Devotional: Isaiah describes the coming servant not as someone who theorized about suffering but as one who was acquainted with grief. The word acquainted matters. It means He knew it from the inside. When Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus, as recorded in John 11:35, He did not weep because He lacked information about what was coming. He wept because the grief of those He loved moved Him deeply. This is the God we serve. He does not require you to stop hurting before He draws near. He meets you in your tears, just as He met Mary at the tomb, just as He stands beside you now.

Reflection: Have you ever felt that your grief was a sign of weak faith? How does the image of Jesus weeping challenge or comfort that belief?

Practical Application: Read John 11:28-36 slowly. Pay attention to how Jesus responded to Mary's sorrow. Ask God to help you receive His compassion without feeling the need to justify or minimize your pain.
