Devotion: Day 1

DAY 1 — GOD’S MERCY MOVES FIRST

Primary Text: Genesis 19:16-17
“The LORD being merciful unto him… Escape for your life… do not look behind you.”

Deep Insight
Before the command came, mercy acted first.
Genesis 19:16 says the angels took Lot by the hand.

Hebrew word for mercy:
חֶמְלָה (chemlah) = compassion that rescues someone who cannot rescue themselves.
This means:
God’s grace precedes God’s instructions.
Deliverance begins with God’s initiative.

Supporting Scriptures
Ephesians 2:4-5 — “God, rich in mercy… made us alive.”
Psalm 40:2 — He lifted me out of the pit.
Romans 5:8 — Christ died while we were still sinners.

Reflection
Where has God already pulled you out before you even fully obeyed?

Prayer
“Lord, help me recognize Your mercy already at work in my life and respond quickly to Your leading.”
