Devotion: Day 2
Day 2: The Cost of Deception
Reading: Genesis 4:1-16, Acts 5:1-11
Devotional: From Cain's deflection—"Am I my brother's keeper?"—to Ananias and Sapphira's fatal deception, Scripture reveals that lies corrupt more than just facts; they fracture relationships and poison communities. Deception is the legal counsel of violence, protecting injustice while erasing victims. The immediate death of Ananias and Sapphira wasn't punishment for withholding money, but for faking holiness before God. When we lie to others, we lie to God Himself. Consider this sobering truth: lies require constant maintenance and split our identity between who we are and who we represent. Truth, however, is organic and life-giving. What lies are you maintaining that exhaust your soul? Confess them today and experience the relief of authenticity.
